Recently, I have had the opportunity to speak with people who claim that they do not believe in God, but in the universe. However, I took notice of the fact that everything that they ascribe to the universe are actually things that our Lord Jesus has already detailed in the bible. One common phrase that people say is this “what you say unto the universe is what you would get”. However the bible already mentioned this over 2000 years ago, the bible says in Proverbs 18:21
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”.
The bible verse above explains the power of words and that what we say can indeed affect the order of things, I honestly believe that this is not just in a physical sense but in a spiritual sense, because even Jesus himself was referred to as the living word. Remember John 1 verse 1 says
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Another thing that people say is this “when you give positive energy to the universe, the universe would give positive energy to you”. This is something else that the bible already mentioned 2000 years ago. Christians are called to be of good behavior and to be ambassadors for Christ, and concerning this, God says in Proverbs 16:7
“ When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him”.
Your ways cannot please the Lord if you are of bad behavior, and honestly, having your enemies be at peace with you sounds like some pretty good vibes to me. You get the drill here, good vibes and you get good vibes in return, even from your enemies.
Here is my question, why are these people appropriating the words from the bible and applying it to the Universe, when these ideas clearly existed before the concept of “the Universe”. Is the concept of “the Universe”, just a politically correct way of discussing God and spirituality in a world that simply wants to act like God does not exist? Whatever it is, you need to know that “the Universe” did not invent these ideas, God did, and he did so 2000 years ago. The universe was created, and God is the creator. Do not worship the created when you can worship the creator.

I like this post, and agree. The pride of man desires so desperately to point to anything or someone else besides our Lord. The natural tendency we are born with. The fall, within. Choosing idols over the Lord has always been the way of the flesh throughout the ages. The “universe” is just another word for idolatry. Great post 🙏
