The Trick Unbelievers Use

Dear Brethren, I hope this message meets you well. I have heard so many unbelievers who point to what they consider “contradictions” in the Bible as proof that God is not real or Christianity is not a valid religion. However, in responding to them, we need to make reference to Jesus’s encounter with Satan in the book of Matthew.

Matthew 4: 5 – 6 says

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, 6 and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’[c]”

Truly, the Bible did say what Satan said it does. The Bible mentioned the words that Satan is referring to in Psalm 91:11-12. However the words are taken out of context and are a literal reading of the words.

Matthew 4:7 says

7 Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’[d]”

What seems like contradicting Bible verses are a blessing – The Bible needs to be read as a whole. Satan tried to use this to tempt Jesus to jump off a high mountain, but Jesus knew the whole bible, and was able to answer in the right context. Satan tried to deceive Jesus using a literal reading of Psalm 91:11-12, but Jesus replied with his understanding of Deuteronomy 6:16 (which is what Jesus quoted).

Unbelievers would always mention contradictions, but when seen as a whole, we see that what they consider contradictions are actually just a result of their isolated reading of what is a whole book which has parts that complement each other.

Brethren, it is important for us to stay aware. Let’s keep being holy and praying for heaven. Keep me in your prayers as well.
