Hello Brethren,
I hope this message meets you well.
As is my usual way of doing, I am back with another post. Today, I want to talk about discrimination. Discrimination stems from fear and favoritism. Sometimes people discriminate others because they do not fully understand them and because they fear them, so they make up things about those people and discriminate them. Sometimes people discriminate other people because they feel as if they are better than those people. Some people genuinely believe in a hierarchy of humans, where they believe that some races are better than others, some looks are better than others, and that money makes some people better than other people. However, God does not think this way, and he does not want us to think this way. We are not even supposed to think that we are better than other people. God is clear on this and God is against discrimination.
In the Bible we see that Aaron and Miriam (Moses’ siblings) spoke against him because he married a black woman. God punished them for doing so.
Numbers 12:1-10 says:
12 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
2 And they said, Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the Lord heard it.
3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
4 And the Lord spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
5 And the Lord came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
9 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them; and he departed.
10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
The Bible also warns us against favoritism
James 2:1-4 says
2 My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
Discrimination is such a huge topic in the world right now, and sometimes they are even systemic, but these structures are not Godly. It is God that created all people. We need to pray to God for this ability to not discriminate others, because these days people tend to prefer their race to other races of people, which in itself can be discrimination depending on the context. We need to be careful to make sure that we are not feeding the beast that is biting down many parts of the world right now. I pray God gives us strength. Stay blessed in the name of Jesus, Amen.
